Auto Ethnography of High Support Needs
Amanda Lowry recently completed her PhD examining the welfare and care of highly impaired athletes in high-performance disability sport. Her work centres the embodied experiences of athletes, with particular attention to the relational dimensions of care and invisible labour that underpins participation and performance.
As a former international swimmer for Aotearoa New Zealand, she brings an informed, insider perspective to her research. Her work contributes to ongoing conversations about ableism, athlete welfare, equity, and the development of more inclusive and responsive high-performance systems.
