The Center for Rehab & Assistive Technology Excellence (CReATE) Design Studio is a dedicated product design and research facility within the state-of-the-art ambit of the Human Engineering Research Laboratories. This 480 sq. ft. space houses engineering, art and software tools in close proximity providing an organic and immersive design-based research and learning experience. Some of the tools include the latest in desktop 3D printing technology – Makerbot’s Replicator 2 and Replicator 2X, and Leapfrog’s Creatr – a high performance computer aided design and analysis workstation and up-to-date software including Dassualt SolidWorks 2013, Autodesk Inventor 2014, ANSYS 15, Adobe Design and Web Suite and Corel Painter X3 with a dedicated Wacom tablet input. The lab also has the capability of developing and implementing mobile device software solutions for both Apple and Android ecosystems with the help of a dedicated developer system – the Mac Mini, and testing devices – iPad, iPhone, Android phone and tablets. In addition, the lab is ideal for design reviews, early stage conceptualization and telecommunication-based design initiatives owing to the availability of design, teleconferencing and multimedia tools in a compact and functional space.
