Erica Gavel-Pinos
Erica Gavel-Pinos, PhD, is a sport scientist, Paralympian, and sport leader whose work focuses on athlete health and performance in Paralympic sport. Her research examines disability-specific factors that influence athlete health and performance, including pregnancy and postpartum health, thermoregulation, hydration, and bladder function in athletes with disabilities. Her work aims to improve evidence-based practices and support systems for Paralympic athletes across the lifespan, from development to high performance sport. In addition to her research, she contributes to sport leadership and governance through roles with Own the Podium and the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation, and she serves as a member of the International Paralympic Committee Science and Research Working Group. Through her combined experience as a researcher, athlete, and sport leader, she works to bridge the gap between science, policy, and practice to advance health, performance, and equity in Paralympic sport worldwide.
