HERL Student Wins Berner Award

U.S. Army Veteran Nathan Bastien, currently working on his Bachelor of Philosophy degree with HERL Director Dr. Rory Cooper, has been awarded a Berner Award by the University of Pittsburgh Honors College. The award is supported by Georgia Berner.

Nate is an Army Medic and OIF/OEF Veteran, and later served as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of the Occupational Therapy Program at Walter Reed. Nate is a participant in the Experiential Learning for Veterans in Assistive Technology and Engineering (ELeVATE) program funded by the National Science Foundation. He has been working with the Army Shooting Team at Ft. Benning, GA to develop an adaptive shooting stand to help Wounded Warriors compete.
