Ergonomic Pushrim

HERL researchers created an improved wheelchair handrim designed to provide an improved fit to the hand and relieve stress and pressure on the user’s upper body. In a 2005 study, users of these pushrims reported significantly less pain in their hands, wrists, and shoulders. The pushrim was granted U.S. Patent # 6,276,705 in August 2001, and was licensed by Out-Front, a division of wheelchair manufacturer TiLite. It is marketed as “The Natural-Fit Pushrim.”
